Four tiger cubs that were rescued during an operation in Hunsur division between November 27 and 30 have died owing to infections and other causes, according to authorities.A tigress and her four cubs were captured in a three-day operation at Gowdanakatte village in the Hanagodu section of Hunsur range. They were shifted to Chamundi Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre on the outskirts of Mysuru for monitoring and treatment.However, one female cub died on December 1 owing to cardiopulmonary failure and acute severe gastritis while a male cub died on December 5 owing to hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and encephalitis. This was also confirmed in the postmortem report, the authorities said.After these two cubs died, authorities took blood samples from the other two cubs, both female, and found similar symptoms, following which veterinary doctors administered aggressive emergency treatment. But this proved to be unsuccessful, and one cub died on December 7, while the other died on December 9 owing to an infection called Feline panleukopenia, the authorities added.They said the mother is healthy and her condition is being monitored.Published - December 10, 2025 07:27 pm IST
