Linked to NIA & ATS case: ED conducts 40 searches nationwide in ISIS conspiracy probe

By: Express News ServiceMumbai | December 12, 2025 12:21 AM IST 2 min readThe federal agency stated that the suspects had allegedly helped assemble improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at a rented house in Kondhwa, Pune, with material procured and stored there.THE Enforcement Directorate Thursday carried out raids at 40 locations across multiple states and districts including at Padgha-Borivali Region near Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, UP, Ratnagiri  in connection with a money-laundering probe arising from cases registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Maharashtra ATS against Pune based individuals linked to alleged ISIS activities in the state. The ED action is aimed at verifying suspected money flows, funding channels and support networks connected to the accused.An ED official said that considering the gravity of the offence and the risk posed to national security, around 40 locations pertaining to the accused persons, their close associates and family members, and entities reflecting financial linkages with the accused persons across multiple districts and states including the ones at Padgha-Borivali Region near Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, UP, Ratnagiri were searched under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).The official said that the charge sheets filed by the NIA in the case forms the basis of initiating PMLA investigation. The chargesheet alleged that the said individuals were part of a highly radicalized ISIS-linked module and were engaged in recruitment, training, procurement of weapons and explosives, and raising funds to sustain the operations of the terror module.Further, intelligence inputs were also received from ATS, Mumbai, reflecting clandestine cutting, smuggling, and sale of Khair (Kaith) wood, the proceeds of which were suspected to be diverted for supporting extremist activities, the official said. During 2022–2023, the group reportedly organised bomb-making workshops and carried out a controlled test explosion in forested areas near Pune.
