In 2021, Samsung launched the ISOCELL HP1, the world’s first camera sensor for smartphones with 200MP resolution. Back then, it was the camera sensor with the highest resolution for mobile devices. Sony, the other big brand in the mobile camera market, took almost four years to catch up to the South Korean tech giant. Now, Samsung’s 200MP camera sensors will face competition from another company, OmniVision.Reportedly, OmniVision has launched the OVB0D, a camera sensor for phones with 200MP resolution. It has a 1/1.1-inch sensor size, making it slightly larger than Samsung’s 200MP camera sensors, which have a size from 1/1.4-inch to 1/1.22-inch. It features dual on-chip re-mosaic, has a full-well capacity of 400K and a 108db dynamic range, and support for DCG and LOFIC Gen 2+ for multi-frame HDR processing.Reportedly, Chinese smartphone manufacturers will use this camera sensor for the ultra-high-end flagship smartphones that they will launch in the coming months. Up until now, these brands have been using Samsung’s 200MP camera sensors. With them turning to OmniVision, Samsung’s sales of 200MP camera sensors could drastically reduce.Samsung's latest camera sensor for phones with 200MP resolution is the ISOCELL HPB.
