Samsung's first smart ring, aptly called the Galaxy Ring, was launched back in 2024. No successor was launched in 2025 and it's unclear if one will arrive in 2026. Some recent developments, including Samsung's new lawsuit against Oura, suggest that the Galaxy Ring 2's future remains in limbo.No clarity on a new model being launched in 2026Oura was the dominant player in the smart ring market before Samsung launched the Galaxy Ring. Anticipating a patent infringement challenge, Samsung launched a pre-emptive suit before the Galaxy Ring's launch to assert that its technology did not violate any of Oura's patents.Oura feels differently, and just last month, it filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission to request a sales ban on the Galaxy Ring. Samsung responded with a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas last week. The lawsuit claims Oura infringes on Samsung's patents and seeks injunction as well as damages.Amidst all this, reports from South Korea suggest that Samsung is re-evaluating its strategy for the Galaxy Ring. Despite strong sales after the wearable was launched in 2024, sales have since slowed down. Launching a new model would be a good way to reinvigorate them, but perhaps the company feels it would be best to sort its Oura issue out first. The report mentions that Samsung is unlikely to give up on smart rings, but that there could be a delay. Samsung isn't expected to unveil a Galaxy Ring 2 at next year's February Unpacked event for the Galaxy S26 series.
