Dejan Lovren has leapt to the defence of Mo Salah and hinted that there is more to the Egyptian’s complaints than just being benched for three games. With Salah left at home for Liverpool’s away Champions League match against Inter Milan, the 33-year-old posted a photo from the AXA Training Centre of him working alone in the gym on Monday morning.Salah added no caption to the social media post, but there were replies from ex-players including friend and former teammate Dejan Lovren. The PAOK defender initially commented: “The only way to deal with injustice is to fight with all our strength.”Instagram user @jayb1996__ then replied to Lovren: “What injustice? Being dropped for three games so the team can work without him so we are ready for when he goes AFCON?“No justice is needed, Chiesa doesn’t act like this? He played 142 minutes alone.”A reasonable argument in the eyes of many supporters. However, Lovren vehemently disagreed, writing: “You have no clue what’s going on behind doors.“Stay in your territory with your keyboard and support the wrong side.”Lovren hints here at there being more to Salah’s complaints than simply having to sit on the bench for three matches, and this would line up with the Egyptian’s words.“It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus, that’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame,” Salah said after Liverpool’s draw with Leeds.“I said before I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why.“It seems to me, I would say, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”For Salah to come out and say this, there must surely be more to his frustration than missing three matches. Some have suggested senior club officials would like to sell him in January, with Slot carrying the burden of pushing him out. However, this is merely conjecture. When Slot was asked who it was Salah referred to when saying someone ‘threw him under a bus’, the head coach responded: “The only one who can answer that question is Mo himself.“So I can guess, but I don’t think that’s the right thing to do in this moment of time. It’s hard for me to tell who he means in that situation, to be honest.”Jordan Henderson also commented on Salah’s photo, leaving a love heart, while Dominik Szoboszlai, Alisson, Milos Kerkez, Andy Robertson, Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton all liked the post. With his relationship having broken down with Slot, Salah suggested Liverpool’s upcoming match against Brighton, before he goes to AFCON, could be his last at Anfield.“I called my mum yesterday and told them ‘come to the Brighton game’, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I’m going to enjoy it,” the Egyptian said.“We’ll see what’s going to happen, but in my head I’m going to enjoy that game if I play or not, I’m on the bench or not.“I don’t know what’s going to happen now, but that’s going to be at Anfield, say goodbye to the fans before the Africa Cup, because I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m there.”It would be a very sad way to end a career for one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
