Serious Kaide Gordon injury scuppers Liverpool January transfer

Kaide Gordon‘s hopes of a new platform to build his senior career in the January transfer window have been scuppered by a serious injury for the Liverpool winger.Gordon took in two fruitless loans in 2024/25, playing 327 minutes combined for Norwich and Portsmouth, and has spent the first half of this season with Liverpool U21s.The plan was for the 21-year-old to find a new club in January, with another temporary move considered likely, but that will no longer happen. In a post on Instagram on Wednesday, Gordon revealed he has torn his meniscus and will be “out for some time.”“So disappointed,” the winger wrote. “[It’s the] worst news I could have got and this one will hurt for a while, but I will be back.”It remains to be seen if Gordon will require surgery but he will be facing a number of months of sidelines as a result of his injury. This comes just days after he joined Arne Slot‘s squad for first-team training, taking part in sessions ahead of the 3-3 draw with Leeds.Gordon has also made the matchday squad on two occasions so far this season, coming off the bench in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, while making eight appearances for the U21s.In those eight games he scored four goals and laid on three assists, including a brace in the Vertu Trophy clash with League Two side Chesterfield eventually won on penalties.Settling into a new regular role as a No. 10, the youngster looked primed for a move back to the Football League next month – but he will now focus on his recovery at the AXA Training Centre. He can still target more minutes for Rob Page’s U21s between now and the end of the season while also filling in at first-team level when required. But the timing of this injury is brutal for Gordon, who will now be left to make up for lost time in the summer as he aims to find his feet as a senior player away from Liverpool. In more positive news, the young Reds will soon be boosted by the return to availability of strikers Jayden Danns and Will Wright. The pair have been sidelined with lengthy hamstring and knee injuries respectively but are stepping up their training load and should be available to Page again from the start of 2026.
