Participants in a group photo after the seminarUganda Airlines, in partnership with Boeing, has successfully hosted The Future Starts with You – Aviation & Youth Seminar, a landmark initiative aimed at connecting Ugandan students with global aviation career pathways.Held at Makerere University’s School of Food Technology, Nutrition, and Bioengineering Conference Hall on December 8, 2025 under the theme ‘Connecting Education, Tourism & National Development’, the event brought together aviation professionals, diplomats, university leaders, and over 300 students eager to explore opportunities in the dynamic aviation sector.The seminar aimed to raise awareness, ignite ambition, and build clear pathways for young Ugandans seeking careers in aviation, aerospace, and related sectors.Uganda Airlines CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki encouraged students to view aviation as an inclusive, multidisciplinary field. “Aviation has space for every discipline-engineering, ICT, design, food science, law, business, and more. As a national carrier, we are committed to opening pathways from the classroom to the cockpit and beyond,” Bamuturaki said, emphasizing that professionalism and punctuality are essential in aviation.Herb Wallen of Boeing shared his personal journey into aerospace, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and talent development. “Engineering opens every door,” Wallen said, referencing Boeing’s cutting-edge 787 Dreamliner technology.Prof. Bismark Agbemble of Liberty University announced discussions to create aviation scholarships, student exchanges, and FAA-accredited technical training opportunities for Ugandan students.Brenda Katarikawe Opus of PACEID highlighted aviation’s role in strengthening Uganda’s export competitiveness, particularly in the efficient transport of perishable goods to global markets.Lana Surface, Education & Culture Attaché at the U.S. Embassy, encouraged students to explore U.S. education and training opportunities through Education USA.Dr. Julia Kigozi, Dean of Makerere University’s School of Food Technology, praised the partnership for bringing the aviation industry experts closer to students. “These engagements help students understand the professional environment and prepare for real-world demands,” she said.Interactive sessions included mentorship, scholarship guidance, and competitions, with students engaging directly with pilots, engineers, and aviation specialists.
