(File Photo)Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to ensure that the metro Line 3 from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar should be completed as per the set deadline. The deadline for starting the metro service on Line 3 is March end, 2026.In a planning committee meeting of PMRDA chaired by him, Fadnavis said that the metro route should fulfill the objectives of the project in the interest of citizens.The chief minister also directed the PMRDA to take up construction of a service road on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass near Navale bridge to check the accidents taking place at the location. “The flyover at Pune university junction should be opened for the public as early as possible without waiting for formal inauguration,” Fadnavis said adding PMRDA should prepare a comprehensive mobility plan for Pune.The PMRDA general body meeting also approved sewage treatment work of Rs 1209.8 crore for 27 villages in Pune metropolitan area which will benefit 39.42 lakh population of the area.The chief minister said Rs 32,523 crore has been sanctioned for 220 development works in Pune metropolitan region.At present, the PMRDA has started 127 works of developing 589 km long roads, 83 km long ring road, three bridges, affordable housing projects and water supply projects.It will soon undertake development of 17 road junctions to ease traffic in the metropolitan region. 10 tourist destinations, five multi modal hubs, one sky walk and river improvement project of Mula, Mutha, Pawana and Indrayani rivers.The PMRDA has also undertaken a feasibility study of a 20 km road tunnel from Yerwada to Katraj to decongest existing city roads and the project is likely to cost Rs 7,500 crore.Ajay Jadhav is an Assistant Editor with The Indian Express, Pune.
