Only then I will be in a position to comment.''AS BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe alleged the existence of a multi-crore property tax scam in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the state government on Wednesday directed Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar to probe the matter.”The allegations made by the member will be probed by the Municipal Commissioner,” Industry Minister Uday told the Maharashtra Legislative Council today after Gorkhe raised the issue.Alleging that there was a property tax in PCMC, Gorhe said,”A serious irregularity, excess tax billing and violations of rules regarding bill payment has taken in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.”Gorkhe said a private company was given a contract of conducting property tax survey for Rs 47 crore. ”Then in the name of a drone survey, additional Rs 29 crore was sanctioned for the purpose. How much drone survey was done? No one knows…Who verified the bill paid to the contractor? Was the data, on the spot verification and technical tests reports submitted?,” he asked.Gorkhe alleged that the contractor submitted deceitful and excessive bills to the citizens. ”Citizens have complained to me about receiving bogus bills,” he claimed. Has the PCMC given directives to conduct a third party audit?,” he asked.Gorkhe said it was important to find out whether tender was awarded by flouting norms. ”How much financial loss did PCMC suffer? If the PCMC has suffered financial loss, who is conducting the probe? What action has been taken so far?,” he asked.Gorkhe said PCMC has claimed that tax assessments of 3,70,213 properties have been done. ”If that is the case, then how much loss has PCMC suffered till date?,” he asked.Story continues below this adResponding to the allegations made by Gorkhe, Minister Samant said,”A private firm was given the contract to conduct a survey of 5,80,00 properties. It was estimated that 40,000 more properties would be found in the survey. However, more than three lakh properties were found. Though an additional Rs 29 crore has been sanctioned, so far only Rs 12 crore has been paid. The remaining bill will be paid only after the probe is conducted.”When contacted, PCMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar said,’ ‘Prima facie, I don’t see anything wrong with the survey…But I will have to look into it in detail.
