The PDC have been told to make further changes to their upcoming prize money overhaul.A record increase in the winnings available for players will be introduced from the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship. The PDC have been urged to change their prize money rules despite record increasesAFP It will see a total of £25million made available in prize money across the darts season. The changes include a £5million prize fund at Alexandra Palace, with the winner taking home £1million.However, the president of the Professional Darts Players Association (PDPA) says more needs to be done.Former World Grand Prix champion Alan Warriner-Little has called on the PDC to pay first round losers at Players Championship events.Under the current prize money rules, players only receive earnings once they make the second round at ProTour floor events.Despite an increase of £25,000 per event to the prize fund for each event from next year, those knocked out in the first round will continue to go unpaid.Warriner-Little has revealed the PDPA are working to resolve the issue.Speaking to Online Darts, he explained: “A couple of issues, a big one obviously is the first round prize money at Players Championships.“Now, we’re (PDPA) of the view that’s different than the PDC, we think players should be paid because they’re working and we’re looking after the players, it’s an obvious thing to say.“They could be playing on a stream board, as an example, and they lose the game 6-5 to Luke Littler with a 110 average and they get nothing for it.ITV SportPDPA president Warriner-Little has revealed prize money talks with the PDC[/caption]“So, we’re of the view that you should get something for it and we’re working on that. The PDC have a different view, so we’re trying to get that balance in between.”The changes to the Players Championship prize money will see players earn more between the second round and semi-finals.However, finalists will continue to earn the same amount next year.Discussing the record increase in prize money, Warriner-Little added: “They’ve just announced this incredible prize money increase for next year.“Which is absolutely amazing what the PDC have done, £25million, £5million in the worlds, £1million for (winning) the world championship.“Personally, I’m very proud to be a part of the early part of this to do it and I never thought we would get here and it was a thing for Barry (Hearn) to put on his gravestone, not that he’s going to go yet.2026 Players Championship prize moneyWinner: £15,000Runner-Up: £10,000Semi-Finalists: £6,500Quarter-Finalists: £4,000Last 16 losers: £3,000Last 32 losers: £2,000Last 64 losers: £1,250Total: £150,000“That was his big goal there and he’s made it. It’s been an incredible journey (to) where we are.“Talking ten years ago, we weren’t full-time. We were just doing ad hoc meetings but darts has got so busy now.“It’s a game everybody wants to play and watch. Everybody knows who Luke Littler is and all the other top players. So now it’s full-time and you’re just constantly working 24/7.”What do darts players think?Warriner-Little’s comments prompted a response on social media from current PDC star Madars Razma. The Latvian, who is currently ranked 47th in the world, wrote on X: “I understand the PDC position.“But this is why I have been telling my wife for eight years that darts is not my work.Razma claims he tells his wife ‘darts is not my work’ due to ProTour prize moneyGettyAt the other end, the winners of the Players Championship will bank £15,000Getty“Who is going to pay (my time, flights, hotels) for the opportunity to go to work?”Razma played in all 34 Players Championship events this year, earning £30,000 in prize money. However, he was eliminated in the first round 14 times, with no winnings earned at those events.Having qualified for the Players Championship Finals, he will earn at least £3,000 at Minehead later this month.
