Rare is the day the NFL trade deadline delivers, but Tuesday’s 2025 deadline might be that day.The Jets handed All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner a record-setting four-year, $120.4 million extension in July — and now, less than four months later, he’s on the move.Gardner has been one of the best corners in the league since his arrival in 2022GettyThe 7-2 Indianapolis Colts – 7th in talkSPORT’s Super Bowl contender rankings – are going all in, trading their 2026 and 2027 first-round picks along with wide receiver AD Mitchell to the Jets in exchange for Gardner.The Colts get Gardner at the league minimum for the rest of the season, then will take on his salary of $25.5 million in 2026, $24.95 million in 2027, and $20.2 million in 2028.Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo must be grinning, now that he has a true number-one cornerback to implement into his scheme.Gardner will have a chance to thrive in Anarumo’s defense, where his length and disruptive presence at the line of scrimmage can be fully maximized.The 25-year-old burst onto the league in 2022, earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, a Pro Bowl selection, and First-Team All-Pro in his very first season.
