The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has flayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for making baseless charges for political gains, by systematically ‘undermining’ the significance of constitutional bodies.Addressing a media conference in Tirupati, the party’s State official spokesperson Jalli Madhusudhan and State media panelist K. Sridhar called his recent diatribe on the Election Commission of India (ECI) on ‘Vote Chori’ ahead of Haryana elections as ‘unsubstantiated’.“After his outbursts on the Supreme Court, it now seems to be the turn of the ECI to bear the brunt. He has to understand that such hollow charges will not endear him to the voters, as it needs a connect with the public,” Mr. Madhusudhan said.He wondered how the Congress could come up with the same lame excuse of blaming the voters’ list or ‘EVM tampering’ in the wake of an electoral defeat, but would remain mum during a victory.“In spite of the transparent and methodical functioning of the ECI in executing the Special Intensive Review (SIR) to eliminate the gaping loopholes in the voters’ list, Mr. Rahul Gandhi seems to be playing politics over a sensitive issue,” Mr. Sridhar said.Maintaining that non-voters should not be allowed to exercise their franchise and decide the country’s fate, Mr. Sridhar demanded Mr. Gandhi to answer ECI’s query if he was for or against the very process of SIR.Published - November 09, 2025 03:14 pm IST
