I have extended my term twice, with their blessing. The first time to work with you to remove the existential threat posed by Iran’s nuclear military capabilities, and the second time to end the war in Gaza on the terms set by Israel, and to return our hostages home. Now, as I conclude my term as Minister of Strategic Affairs, I would like to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve closely by your side for the past three years, and for the trust you placed in me to address the most significant issues facing the State of Israel at this crucial time. This government will be remembered both for the Oct. 7 attack and for its management of the war.The two years and the seven fronts that followed.Oct. 7 is indeed the darkest day the Jewish people have known since the establishment of the State of Israel. But the story of our ancient people has never been defined by its dark days, of which there were countless, but by its ability to persevere and overcome the darkness. This is the story of Israel since Oct. 7. We rejected moral confusion and fear to stand up to our enemies with clarity and courage.Today, two years later, we have dealt a crushing blow to Iran’s axis of terror and now stand in a victorious position that can bring about a new era of security, prosperity and peace. All this is thanks to the courage of our soldiers, the determination of our people, and your unique leadership.Over the past three years, your strong and experienced leadership has been invaluable. Standing firm in the face of domestic and foreign pressures, you have wisely navigated Israel throughout the war.You stood firm in protecting the vital interests of the State of Israel when necessary, and you demonstrated flexibility when those interests themselves demanded it.When the truth is revealed and the facts are clear, I am confident that the appreciation for your leadership will grow even greater.I thank my friends in the political and security echelons, past and present, who sat with me at the cabinet table throughout this long war.In the decades to come, when the minutes of the long and in-depth discussions we had are published, and when the political battles and media spin fade and dim, the people of Israel will know that in its darkest hour, it had worthy leaders who were focused on securing the future of the State of Israel. But even the most worthy leadership depends on brave soldiers who are ready to fight for the defense of the homeland. Therefore, I will be eternally grateful to the many heroes who were wounded and gave their lives in this war, and I bow my head to the bereaved families.I thank the small and talented team in the Office of Strategic Affairs, who showed great dedication and helped me successfully fulfill the tasks assigned to me.I thank my family, and especially my wife, Rhoda, for their willingness to sacrifice so much over the past two decades, and even more so in the past three years, so that I could serve the one and only Jewish state. And above all, I thank the Creator. One hundred generations of Jews dreamed of living in a time when the Jewish people would have a sovereign state. Four generations were blessed to realize this dream. With this privilege comes a sacred responsibility: to secure this dream for future generations. I feel immensely blessed to have been privileged to serve the State of Israel and to dedicate myself to this lofty responsibility.I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I know one thing for sure: Whatever I do, I will continue to do my part to secure the future of the Jewish people. With the end of my government role, my belief in this future could not have been stronger. Many of the enemies who rejoiced over the atrocities of the October Seven and vowed to extinguish the flame of the people of Israel were destroyed, while the light of the people of Israel shines brightly today throughout the region and the entire world.I have no doubt that the light of our eternal people will continue to burn for generations to come.Regards,Ron DermerMinister of Strategic AffairsThe post Ron Dermer resigns as Israel’s strategic affairs minister appeared first on World Israel News.
