The Forest Department has cautioned the public against spreading fake news and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated videos claiming tiger presence near the Hediyala range limits of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.In a press release issued by the Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Hediyala sub-division, Bandipur Tiger Reserve, the department stated that no tiger movements have been recorded in the vicinity of Hediyala. However, certain videos and images circulating on social media platforms have falsely depicted tiger sightings in the area.The department clarified that these visuals appear to have been created using AI tools and are completely baseless. Such misinformation is causing unnecessary fear and confusion among residents living near forest fringes, with many expressing hesitation to visit their fields. One such post said a tiger has been sighted at the Hediyala bus stand at 8:30 p.m.In recent weeks, after continuous combing operations, five tigers have been rescued from the Hediyala range and shifted to the rescue centre. Although there have been complaints of tigers straying into human settlements, verification by forest officials found no such movements. The department said false information was being spread on social media using AI-generated videos, which were being widely shared and causing panic among locals.Officials added that such misinformation campaigns are hampering the department’s response to genuine wildlife cases.The ACF has appealed to the public to refrain from sharing or believing unverified content on social media. “Those responsible for creating and circulating fake posts and videos will face strict legal action,” the statement said.Published - November 12, 2025 06:00 pm IST
