Does Disney World have a problem?Credit: DisneyThe Walt Disney World Resort in Florida attracts millions of visitors each year, thanks to its collection of incredible rides, thrilling attractions, fun entertainment, and a level of service unmatched by most of the industry. From Hollywood Studios to Magic Kingdom, guests have a lot to do and look forward to during their vacations. However, this isn’t exactly true at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which is still considered by many to be a “half-day” park.Whether or not you agree with this sentiment, the park certainly has a lot less to do than the other three, a huge problem considering how expensive a Disney World vacation can be.Disney is in the middle of upgrading Animal Kingdom, but will this fix the park’s biggest issue, or will it only further highlight it?Credit: DisneyRelated: Jurassic Park Ride Shutting Down Nearly All Year at Universal OrlandoDisney’s Animal Kingdom has been serving up thrills and chills since 1998, but the park has undergone tremendous changes since it first opened its gates.Originally, Animal Kingdom was intended to be both a fun theme park and a place where guests could learn about topics such as conservation, biology, and zoology. The park wasn’t just meant to be a pretty place to look at, but a place guests could actually immerse themselves in and learn. In many ways, Animal Kingdom embodies the original design of EPCOT, which was intended to be a haven for creativity, technology, and education. In 2025, these aspects of the park still remain, but have been understated with each passing year,This isn’t to say that Animal Kingdom isn’t fun, as it might actually hold the best assortment of attractions out of any of the four theme parks. Expedition Everest marked a major turning point for Animal Kingdom when it opened in 2006, as did Pandora – The World of Avatar in 2017.Animal Kingdom now features two of Disney’s best rides, both of which are huge attractions. But after guests enjoy these rides, what’s actually left to do?Animal Kingdom has faced an attraction problem since the very beginning. Put simply. There’s very little to actually “do” at the park. Sure, there are a few shows and attractions to enjoy, but Animal Kingdom has the least to do (by far) compared to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom. As we mentioned, Animal Kingdom has undergone numerous changes and updates over the years, but the park’s attraction issues have remained essentially unchanged. This is because Disney has chosen to replace experiences rather than add them.Credit: DisneyRelated: Massive Expansion Alert: Shanghai Disneyland Announces Super-Sized AdditionsAside from Expedition Everest, which remains the most recent Disney World attraction to open not based on an existing IP, Animal Kingdom’s new additions have all been replacements for previous experiences.Pandora replaced Camp Minnie-Mickey. The park’s new Zootopia theater show, Zootopia: Better Zoopgether, replaced It’s Tough to Be a Bug. These “expansions” haven’t really added a lot in the grand scheme of things to the park.New expansions are on the way for Animal Kingdom, but again, these aren’t completely new areas to explore as much as they are replacements of other areas.DinoLand U.S.A. will close permanently in February 2026 to make way for a new area called Tropical Americas. This hub will feature new attractions to explore, but not any more than DinoLand offered.DINOSAUR, the land’s big “E-ticket” attraction, will be replaced with a new Indiana Jones-themed ride. The same goes for Primeval Whirl, which closed years ago but will be replaced with a new Encanto attraction.Even Tropical America’s new carousel isn’t entirely “new,” as it will replace DinoLand’s TriceraTop Spin.To put it another way, even after everything is said and done, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will not have significantly more to offer than it did in 2017, a major concern for a park often labeled a “half-day” experience.New rides and attractions will certainly be a major draw for Animal Kingdom going forward, but the park’s total capacity has remained relatively unchanged in the 25+ years it has been open. Whether or not this changes is up to Disney, but we are excited nonetheless by Animal Kingdom’s future. How do you feel about Disney’s Animal Kingdom? The post The BIG Problem With Animal Kingdom – What Will Disney Do? appeared first on Inside the Magic.
