Islam Makhachev bids to become a two-weight champion at UFC 322 this weekend when he faces Jack Della Maddalena at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The same opportunity presents itself in the co-main event as former strawweight champion Weili Zhang steps up to face flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko. The UK’s Leon Edwards also makes his return to action against feared Brazilian Carlos Prates. Here we preview some of the best bets from UFC 322.GET £20 IN FREE BETS WITH TALKSPORT BET*UFC 322 TipsJack Della Maddalena to win @ 85/40Benoit Saint-Denis to win by KO, TKO or DQ @ 8/5Malcolm Wellmaker to win @ 13/8Jack is one Dell of a fighterJack Della Maddalena (18-2-0) and Islam Makhachev (27-1-0) go head-to-head in an intriguing stylistic match-up.Della Maddalena is eight fights deep inside the Octagon, with an unblemished record since his 2021 debut. The Australian picked up the 170lb belt at UFC 315 in May with a five-round domination of Belal Muhammad. The 29-year-old outstruck Muhammad and defended six of nine takedowns against a champion with elite wrestling credentials. An elite striker with a sniper jab, Della Maddalena has 12 career wins by KO/TKO, including in four of his eight UFC victories.Islam Makhachev goes into this competition after vacating his lightweight title earlier in the year following a quickfire submission victory of Renato Moicano in January, who stepped in at the last minute due to an injury to number one contender Arman Tsarukyan. Makhachev, who is 18-1 in the UFC and on a fifteen-fight winning streak overall, made a total of four title defences, defeating Alexander Volkanovski twice (Dec & TKO) and Dustin Poirier (Sub – R5). The Dagestan fighter is an elite grappler with his sambo wrestling skills propelling him to the top of the lightweight division, along with an ever-evolving kickboxing game. The 34-year-old looks to have filled out well into a welterweight frame, but his strength and speed with the added weight against a native of the division will ultimately be unknown until fight night.Makhachev will start as favourite for victory, but this will be the first time in a long while that he won’t have a significant weight advantage entering the Octagon.Della Maddelana could well have the answer defensively to the wrestling and possesses the superior striking to edge a close fight.God of War looks to unleash in New YorkBenoit Saint-Denis (15-3-0) makes a quick turnaround to face Beneil Dariush (23-6-1) and he can rack up back-to-back victories. Saint-Denis dismantled hot prospect Mauricio Ruffy in Paris in September, submitting the Brazilian in the second round. The self proclaimed “God of War” is 7-3 in the UFC with three KO/TKOs and four submission wins.A dramatic step-up in class against Dustin Poirier in early 2024 derailed his upward trajectory. And after a second loss to Renato Moicano, he has since returned with back-to-back wins, looking more fierce than ever.Dariush is looking to put a run together himself after bouncing back from two defeats with a win over Moicano last time out.At 36 years old, Dariush has a UFC record of 17-6-1 but it was devastating first-round knockouts at the hands of Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira in 2023 that slammed the door on any title aspirations.Aged 29, and late to the game after time served in the French Special Forces, Saint-Denis still looks to have plenty of growth left in him.Although both great grapplers, it is the mix of kicks, knees and elbows on the way in and on the ground that is likely to trouble Dariush and Saint-Denis will not stop trying to win from the opening bell.Watch out for WellmakerMalcolm Wellmaker (10-0-0) looks like one of the brightest prospects currently on the UFC roster and rates good value to get another win against Cody Haddon (8-1-0). Wellmaker is 2-0 in the UFC with back-to-back nasty first-round knockouts of Cameron Saaiman and Kris Moutinho in 2025.The 31-year-old earned his UFC spot with another first-round KO, finishing Englishman Adam Bramhald with a right hook in the opening round of his Contender Series bout.Haddon takes this opportunity on relatively short notice, but he hasn’t been seen since a debut win over Dan Argueta last October.A good grappler and boxer, the New Zealand fighter earned his shot in the UFC via the Contender Series with a first-round submission of Billy Brand. It’s hard to see Haddon being able to control this fight over fifteen minutes, which could leave openings on the feet for Wellmaker.Wellmaker quit his job as a pipefitter after his $50k bonus win in his UFC debut and, at 31, the now full-time fighter looks ready to cause more problems in the bantamweight division.GET £20 IN FREE BETS WITH TALKSPORT BET**odds correct at the time of writing and subject to change18+ New customers only.
