Formerly known for the iconic JellyRolls dueling piano bar, the Deluxe Resort is still home to multiple bars and lounges for adult Disney Park guests, including the magic-themed AbracadaBar, the Belle Vue Lounge, and Leaping Horse Libations. Like EPCOT, which is famous for the “Drinking Around the World Showcase” trend, Walt Disney World Resort’s BoardWalk has a reputation as the hotel for adult guests to indulge in alcoholic beverages.Police Chase at a Disney World HotelCredit: DisneyIn the early morning hours of April 20, 2022, one Walt Disney World Resort guest indulged a bit too much in the adult beverage offerings at the BoardWalk Inn. OCSO bodycam footage posted on YouTube by the Police on Scene YouTube channel shows deputies approach a group of adults who appear to be involved in a physical dispute. At first, the instigating guest speedily walks away from law enforcement officers while yelling at his party. At first, police try to escort the intoxicated guests toward the exit, encouraging them to leave Disney’s BoardWalk Inn without any further confrontation. One of the men warns the officers that the man in the red shirt is “dangerous” and advises against approaching him.“I understand,” a deputy replies. “Everyone will go to jail.”As the guests yell and taunt OSCO deputies, the officers confirm that Walt Disney World Resort wants to trespass the group from its property (the term for banning them).Credit: Joe Penniston, Flickr“I think this is going to turn into a fight,” an officer radios. “The other guys are going to try to fight me if I go hands-on.”The man in the blue shirt and the woman in the group try to subdue the agitated man in the red shirt, who is identified as Christian. At one point, Christian shoves the female guest to the ground, and the deputies decide to handcuff him. In response, he sprints away, leading to a foot chase. The chase doesn’t last long before officers tackle Christian, who momentarily resists and yells, “Shoot me!”Police Report Reveals the Problems Started at EPCOTCredit: Victoria Mills, Inside the MagicWhen the police report from this incident was published in May 2022, it revealed that the problems actually started in the United Kingdom Pavilion at EPCOT. Disney cast members kicked a group of four “disorderly” guests out of the Rose & Crown Dining Room pub at around 9:00 p.m. on April 19, 2022. One of the drunk men cursed at the employees, leading to Walt Disney World Resort Security asking them to leave the park. The police report identified a 24-year-old man named Christian Gedell as one of the disorderly, intoxicated guests. The group appeared to walk from the International Gateway exit of EPCOT toward Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, where the confrontation with OSCO deputies took place. Initially, the officers intended to direct the party to the Uber pickup location at the Walt Disney World Resort hotel. However, the situation escalated when Gedell began cursing at officers and behaving violently.Christian’s brother, Robert Gedell, 32, was identified as the man in the blue shirt who repeatedly apologized for Christian’s behavior. According to the police report, the group upset several families at EPCOT and the Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Some reportedly ran in fear from the group.Credit: Jeremy Thompson, Flickr“While walking up a guest approached us advising he was upset how Christian was talking like that in front of kids and wanted to do something. At the same time [another] guest came up stating, ‘Do something please, do something please,’” the OSCO report read. “Christian Gedell’s actions of running, screaming, and yelling profanities were causing hotel [guests] to run away from him.”Disney security and one OSCO deputy found the group near the JellyRolls dueling piano bar, where Christian taunted law enforcement to “arrest him” as the female guest physically held him back. When he threw her to the ground, officers decided to arrest him.“Christian Gedell threw the female who he was with to the ground with such force I heard her body smack off the pavement,” one of the arresting officers wrote. “He then took flight on foot pushing past a fully uniformed Disney security guard. I and the other deputies ran after him giving verbal commands to stop running.”Credit: DisneyChristian Gedell was bleeding from his fall after authorities tackled him and placed him in handcuffs. After Christian was placed in the squad car, Robert began badgering the officers, demanding to know where his brother was going. He was escorted to the Walt Disney World Swan hotel (not owned by Disney), but returned to Disney’s BoardWalk to ask more questions. This led to his arrest as well.“Robert Gedell walked up on all deputies yelling, ‘Where is my brother going to be taken?’ Robert was told multiple times to back up and to calm down,” the police report reads. “Robert continued to be belligerent, and not listening to deputies on scene.”The brothers, both from New Jersey, pleaded not guilty to their charges in mid-2022. Robert Gedell faced one misdemeanor trespassing charge, while his brother Christian was charged with resisting an officer without violence, trespassing, and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. It’s unclear whether the siblings faced legal consequences for the incident.Has the behavior of another guest impacted your visit to Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort?
