A group of young leaders from the St Venera Girl Guides recently returned from a week-long missionary trip to Albania- an experience that combined service, cultural exchange, and spiritual reflection.Accompanied by the Malta Girl Guides’ spiritual director, Fr Luke Cutajar, the team volunteered with the Sisters of Mother Teresa, who dedicate their lives to helping the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the country.Throughout the mission, the young leaders assisted the nuns in their daily work, offering care, compassion and companionship to those in need. The humility and devotion of the Sisters served as a powerful reminder of the strength found in small acts of love and kindness. One of the most touching parts of the journey was meeting local families and witnessing firsthand the challenging living conditions many face. Despite their hardships, the families welcomed the group with warmth and faith- leaving a deep impression on the Girl Guides and reinforcing the values of gratitude, empathy, and service.Beyond their voluntary work, the participants immersed themselves in Albanian culture. They shared traditional meals, learned about local customs, and connected with young people through games, music, and conversation- discovering how easily friendship transcends language and borders. The trip also included moments of adventure and discovery. The group explored Albania’s breathtaking landscapes, swam in the turquoise waters of the Blue Eye spring, and even went zip-lining through Theth National Park.As they returned home, the St Venera Girl Guides carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and unity. The journey, they said, reaffirmed their commitment to live out the Girl Guiding promise- to serve others with love, faith, and dedication.Well done for this initiative•
