Galaxy A06’s final update underlines how different its 5G twin really is

Wait 5 sec.

Samsung began updating the Galaxy A06 with One UI 8 nearly two weeks ago. We said it was the last major Android OS update for the phone, and that's true. But only if you have the right — or perhaps the wrong — Galaxy A06 version. As you most likely know, two Galaxy A06 versions exist, and only one supports 5G connectivity. The other is capped at 4G LTE. This type of 4G-5G discrepancy is not unusual in Samsung's low-cost phone segment, but the hardware and firmware differences between the Galaxy A06 4G and the A06 5G are substantial.Depending on which one you happen to own, you might want to look for an upgrade sooner or later. The Galaxy A06 (4G) will not receive any new Android OS upgrades, as it shipped with Android 14 and a promise of two OS updates throughout its lifetime. One UI 8 marks the arrival of Android 16 — its final one. However, things are looking a lot different for the Galaxy A06 5G. The latter went on sale a whole six months after the 4G model, which technically makes it a 2025 phone. It debuted in February this year instead of August last year.Luckily, this means the Galaxy A06 5G benefits from extended firmware support. Not only did it ship with the newer Android 15 OS version, but it also qualified for four major Android OS updates. Needless to say, Android 16 won't be its last, and the phone could eventually receive Android 19 a few years from now.Two very unusual siblings, and one is easier to forgetThe different firmware policy isn't the only one that creates an unusual rift between the regular Galaxy A06 and the A06 5G. There are other factors. For instance, the 4G model is not as powerful. It's equipped with the 12nm MediaTek Helio G85 chip, which isn't as capable as the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC that powers the 5G variant. There's also the screen. While both A06 variants seem to have similar displays on paper, the 4G model has a 60Hz screen, while the 5G variant boasts a 90Hz refresh rate. And the third most notable discrepancy lies in build quality. Oddly enough, the Galaxy A06 4G doesn't have an IP rating, but the 5G model is IP54-rated for dust and water resistance. It's not a high rating, but it can help the phone survive water splashes. They are unusual in that sense, even for Samsung's low-cost phone portfolio. And drawing nearer to a conclusion, the 4G model became rather outdated much faster because it was released sooner and under a different firmware policy. The fact that Samsung decided to release both Android 15 and Android 16 this year, only a few months apart, didn't help the A06 either. So, the thought of replacing the Galaxy A06 4G with even the A07 after only one year on the market doesn't seem that unreasonable. The harsh truth is that the A06 4G aged rather poorly. But the same doesn't apply if you own the 5G version. If you do, you need not worry about Android 16 being the last OS upgrade. Your phone should receive three more Android upgrades. Plus, the 5G version is built better, and the Dimensity 6300 chip is more capable and on par with the Galaxy A07's Helio G99.All in all, the Galaxy A06 duo highlights an unusual situation even for Samsung's low-cost phones. Several factors contributed to this, including Samsung's decision to release both Android 15 and Android 16 in 2025. Something like this may never happen again, but it does mean that the 4G Galaxy A06 lived too fast for its own good. The post Galaxy A06’s final update underlines how different its 5G twin really is appeared first on SamMobile.
