‘We are giving all the help’: TMC teams start meeting families of those who ‘died of SIR’

(Source: @AITCofficial/X)Amid allegations of rising deaths in West Bengal linked to the fear about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched an outreach programme under party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who has set up teams of party leaders to reach out to the families of those who died allegedly because of “fear and anxiety” linked to the ongoing SIR, a party functionary said on Saturday.The party aims to offer emotional support to the affected families and reassure the people of West Bengal that the TMC stands beside them in the uncertainty caused by the Election Commission’s exercise, TMC sources said.According to a senior party leader the teams will speak to the family members personally and provide all forms of assistance, “The party is providing financial assistance, along with other assistance whenever needed. The local party leaders have been asked to keep in touch with these families on a regular basis.”Starting Saturday, the teams visited the residences of Pradip Kar Panihati, Kakoli Sarkar of Titagarh, Hasina Begum of Dankuni, Biti Das in Sheoraphuli (Hooghly) and Jahir Mal in Uluberia.Also Read | Away from Bengal? We are beside them and will not let them feel alone. The BJP and the EC are responsible for these deaths.”“I heard that Safikul used to be worried that he did not have documents and would tell his wife that with no documents he would be deported to Bangladesh.
