The Tamil Nadu government has decided to streamline the process of reviewing appeals filed by workers, employees, engineers, supervisors, and officers of the State Transport Corporations (STCs) against charge memos issued to them and the punishments awarded to them on various charges. It has constituted a Committee to formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure uniformity across STCs in the way they receive, examine, process, and decide on these appeals. The Managing Director (MD) of the State Express Transport Corporation (Tamil Nadu) Limited has been named the chair of the panel. The MD of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram) Limited, Joint MD of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Limited, and Chief Financial Officer of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Coimbatore) Limited are the members. Senior Deputy Manager (HRD) of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Limited is the member-convenor.Earlier this year, the State government allowed MDs of STCs to receive appeals against such charge memos and the punishments awarded, consider them (even if they had been rejected earlier for being received after 90 days or if they had not been received at all) as a “one-time special case”, and pass orders after reviewing those appeals. In August this year, the Transport Department requested the constitution of a panel to frame SOPs so that such appeals are considered uniformly across the STCs.Published - November 15, 2025 05:45 pm IST
