This prominent racer has the right run style for this track and can get them all at it out in front, while he can draw upon good experience at this course as he won a strong novice hurdle here in April. 14:55 – Nassalam @ 14/1The heavens opening at Cheltenham was great news for the team associated with Nassalam, who looks a fascinating runner in the marathon handicap chase. Nassalam proved his aptitude for this type of test in the mud when sluicing up by 34 lengths in the Welsh National. He was severely punished by the handicapper after that and had zero chance when thrown in at the deep end for the Gold Cup, nor on his final run that campaign in the Grand National as he was carrying second top weight.The assessor has given him a reprieve of late, however, as he has been pulled up on his past three starts on an unsuitably fast surface.This will be the first time he has his optimum conditions at a realistic level since the Welsh National and the talented Freddie Mitchell’s 5lb claim is another bonus. 15:30 – Rubber Ball @ 25/1 Progressive second-season hurdlers are often the most interesting runners in the Greatwood Hurdle and Rubber Ball appeals for Neil King.These connections were responsible for 2023 Greatwood runner-up Lookaway and this five-year-old has a similar profile to that horse at this stage of his career.Rubber Ball is proven on soft ground and was a big improver before he ended his campaign with a below-part effort in a Grade 1 at Aintree.That assignment was too demanding for Rubber Ball, who may have been feeling the effects of a busy campaign regardless, and he can prove himself well treated in his first handicap off a mark of 128.
