Liverpool are 17 games into the 2025/26 campaign and have been without 10 different players due to injury or suspension, but the number of games missed has decreased compared to last season. It has been an up-and-down start to the new campaign, with Arne Slot left lamenting compromised pre-seasons for several players, in addition to untimely injuries. The head coach was insistent, however, that there were no excuses for Liverpool’s extended run of defeats, which started to turn around when he reverted to his trusted winning formula. But with Liverpool now taking a pause due to the international break, let’s take a look at which players have missed games so far and for how long.In total, the Reds have been without 10 different players for a combined 41 games, with Giovanni Leoni leading the way for matches missed after tearing his ACL in mid-September.The number of games missed is not too dissimilar from the same time last season – a reduction of 8.8 percent, in fact – as eight players missed a combined 45 games across the first 17 matches last year.At the same juncture in 2024/25, Slot was without Alisson, Harvey Elliott, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa due to long-term injuries. In a familiar trend, Alisson (eight) again features on the upper regions of the list this season after another hamstring injury, which has kept him sidelined for eight matches. The Brazilian is expected to return against Nottingham Forest in the first game back from the November break, which is timely ahead of a run of six games in 17 days between November 22 and December 9.Jeremie Frimpong (seven) will soon overtake the Brazilian for games missed after his second hamstring injury of the season, with the Dutchman not expected back until early December. Leoni (10), meanwhile, has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury, with the teenager guaranteed to finish at the top of this list at season’s end.Of the 10 players who have missed at least one match, only Hugo Ekitike has not been ruled out due to injury, instead missing the trip to Crystal Palace due to suspension. Liverpool injuries reduced by 64.3% in 2024/25Last season proved a monumental success for Slot and Co. in reducing the number of games missed due to injury, with a 64.3 percent improvement on Jurgen Klopp‘s final campaign.Only 11 regular senior players were forced to miss at least one game across 2024/25 for a combined 129 games missed, down from the 22 players and 362 matches of 2023/24 (pictured above).Ruben Peeters, first-team lead physical performance coach, was the catalyst for change, and the hope will be that Liverpool’s fortunes change after the international break.Slot has lamented several players not having a full pre-season and how that has bled into the campaign, but four months of uninterrupted club action will hopefully aid consistency for players.
