‘Don’t think you really understand’ – Scott Brown hits back at brutal Scottish football dig

Wait 5 sec.

Jamie O’Hara’s weekends could soon be filled with more Scottish Premiership matches.O’Hara irked the Scottish football community and especially Celtic fans when he bravely claimed League One leaders Stockport County would win the Scottish Premiership. The former Tottenham midfielder also pointed out the Scottish Premiership is ranked 39th in the world by Opta, two places below League One.But Celtic icon Scott Brown has since fired back at O’Hara in emphatic fashion.Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT’s Shebahn Aherne, Brown instructed his fellow Scot to ‘tell Jamie to get back in his box’.Brown, who made over 540 appearances in the Scottish top flight – 407 of those for Celtic – admitted he’d seen the clip of O’Hara. But the Ayr United manager believed O’Hara’s idea of Scottish football must be rooted in the past.Brown rips O’Hara over controversial claim“He’s probably never watched any of the games up in Scotland for a long, long time,” Brown said.“There’s been many players who have come up from the English Premier League and struggled, especially at Celtic and Rangers.“It’s a different environment and until you’ve been in that environment, I don’t think you really understand what it’s about.“He (O’Hara) was a fantastic player down the road and take nothing away from him in that aspect.“But maybe he needs to watch a little more Scottish football before he can talk about that.”O’Hara stirred the pot with his claim about Stockport’s hopes in Scottish footballSky SportsTony Cascarino, who spent the 1991/1992 campaign with Celtic, also stuck up for Scottish football on talkSPORT’s Weekend Breakfast. However, the 63-year-old acknowledged there are limitations on Celtic and Rangers given the gulf in finances that separates English and Scottish teams.Cascarino’s verdict on factor preventing Celtic and Rangers from growing“The difference is not the size of the club, because Celtic and Rangers are huge football clubs that get an amazing following,” Cascarino said.“It’s the finance that’s the issue why these clubs are not as competitive. “I would say they could both play in the Premier League would probably be at the wrong end of the table, is maybe a more fair assessment of where those clubs may be. “But if these clubs came to the Premier League, suddenly they’ve got the finance and the ability to go and buy some of the better names around. They could buy £25, £30m players like other clubs. Brown, who made over 600 appearances for the Hoops, couldn’t disagree more with O’Haragetty images“If Celtic and Rangers had that in their armoury, they could be real powerhouses in the Premier League, without a doubt. They could create really good sides.”How Celtic have performed this seasonAlthough O’Hara’s claim regarding Stockport’s capabilities to win the Scottish Premiership may be far-fetched, Celtic are no certainties to win the league for a fifth-straight season. The Hoops sit second on the table with 23 points, seven behind league leaders Hearts.Celtic also underwent a major change in the dugout as Brendan Rodgers resigned just over 24 hours after a 3-1 loss to Hearts, with Martin O’Neill and Sean Maloney installed as interim managers.Despite the early season turmoil, the Glaswegian giants could cut the gap to Hearts to four points should they win their game in hand.Celtic return to action following the international break with a trip to St Mirren on November 22.
