$200 monthly increase on the line! Social Security bill could deliver big checks in 2026

A new Social Security bill in Congress could give millions a temporary $200 monthly boost in 2026. The plan is part of the Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act led by Senator Elizabeth Warren with backing from Chuck Schumer and Ron Wyden. It would add $200 a month for six months, on top of the 2.8% COLA that already raises the average check by about $56. Payments would be tax-free. The increase would apply to Social Security, SSDI, SSI, veterans’ benefits, and Railroad Retirement. The bill is still pending in Congress.
