Ibrahima Konate has again rubbished new claims around his Liverpool contract talks, but expressed his hope that he will be able to announce a decision “very soon.”Reports earlier this week via L’Equipe claimed that Liverpool had made a new contract offer to Konate’s representatives and were confident of reaching an agreement. But speaking to journalists while on duty with the France national team, the centre-back insisted: “I don’t know where that’s coming from.”What did Konate say about new Liverpool contract?“I’ve seen a lot of things in the press recently, like Liverpool have made me a new offer,” he said per Foot Mercato.“I don’t know where that’s coming from.“My agents are still in discussions with Liverpool; I hope my decision will be made very soon so I can announce it.”This is not the first time that Konate has dismissed speculation over his future, telling reporters at the end of last season that reports he had rejected an offer were “completely fake.”“I didn’t even ask for something from the club,” he explained.“They made me an offer, and I replied to them with something, that is it. The rest, that I want to wait until the end [of my contract and leave on a free], all of it is completely fake.“In November [it was claimed] I am very close to signing the deal. I was like, ‘ah, they have more information than me’, because it was not true at that moment and that is why I was a little bit mad.“I knew at one moment people would think I didn’t want to sign the contract but I was never close to signing it. We will see what will happen.”Will Konate sign a new contract? That Konate was playing down similar claims made a year ago and the landscape seemingly hasn’t changed is certainly not a promising sign. But that Liverpool remain in contact with the defender’s camp suggests they have not been shut down, despite reports of interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.Konate’s assertion that he will communicate his decision “very soon” could, of course, allude to the fact he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a club overseas from January 1.Liverpool supporters can simply hope for clarity at this stage, as though the No. 5 has struggled for form of late he remains a first-choice starter and, if he does not commit, a sufficient replacement will be required.Earlier on Saturday, This Is Anfield covered reports of Liverpool’s failure to sign 16-year-old Ecuadorian centre-back Deinner Ordonez, who has now agreed a deal elsewhere.
