Police targeted the correct apartment in an armed raid on Swieqi apartment last October, however the individuals arrested were not the targets of the operation, according to Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa. The incident saw 15 heavily-armed officers, clad in black tactical gear and balaclavas, force their way into the building on Triq Is-Swieqi where they arrested four individual. It later transpired that they had no connection to the drug-trafficking investigation being pursued. they later described being held on their knees at gunpoint, with one even having a rifle pressed to his forehead.Gafà confirmed that although the address was accurate, the detained individuals were not suspects in the case. He emphasised that the high-risk operation is part of a larger probe into organised criminal networks.According to the police, the raid formed part of a broader drug-trafficking investigation linked to the seizure of 76 kg of suspected cocaine- estimated at a street value of about €9 million- in Gozo. The four residents have filed a judicial protest alleging serious violations of their rights: liberty and security, freedom from inhuman and degrading treatment, and respect for private life. They are demanding preservation and release of all body-camera footage and operational records from the incident. As investigations continue, the police say no fault has yet been established on their part, and they are withholding further details in order not to prejudice ongoing legal proceedings•
