Elections and questionsThe wafer-thin line between welfare schemes and earning political mileage from them is being cleverly exploited by politicians during elections. The code of conduct often goes for a toss and the Election Commission of India’s actions are lopsided most of the time. It is the same with election expenses. Whether parties spend from their party funds is never known. Parties promise freebies and no authority seems to question how the funding for the freebies promised would be met. The electoral system is in need of a total revamp. There is much attention on ‘Vote chori’, but the important questions never get asked.Balasubramaniam Pavani,SecunderabadWomen in BlueThe ODI World Cup win by the Women in Blue should inspire girls in India who wish to take up sport as a career. Women’s cricket in India has traversed a path of extraordinary change — from modest beginnings to global triumph (‘Ground Zero’ page, “Breaking boundaries”, November 8). Earlier, players faced struggles that many would find hard to imagine.R. Sivakumar,ChennaiPublished - November 10, 2025 12:24 am IST
