Buyer says his Toyota Camry dealer lied straight to his face. His fight for justice proves the good doesn’t always win

Wait 5 sec.

Leonel De Leon went to a dealership to buy his daughter a used 2024 Toyota Camry. Leon soon ended up on Tiktok saying how his deal went sour after he left with the car without being given some extras and he’s now urging everyone to not sign anything until the extras are included. De Leon was buying a car that had a mileage of just 18,000 miles, so he at least thought that this was something that had no issues. But if you walk into a dealership with no real strategy of negotiating what you want then you will go home with a bad deal, that’s almost a guarantee. If you look at the video he posted on TikTok — it seems his issue was impatience. He wanted to get the car before his daughter’s birthday had passed. So even though he says he noticed that the car mats and an extra car key were missing, he decided to sign the agreement and take the car. He entered into a gentleman’s agreement with the salesman and he was told to come back for his extras at a scheduled later date a few weeks later.  It’s good that De Leon was at least inspecting the car before he bought it, that’s how people end up with mismatched tires after all. But anything not on paper is not official. When he came back to the dealership, they kept sending him back home and telling him that they’ll call him when his key is programmed and his new car mats arrive. De Leon is now writing captions like “don’t ever trust a salesman” on TikTok. And it’s because he soon found out the salesman hadn’t even ordered the car mats yet, he was just planning to frustrate De Leon until he stops coming. De Leon however finally decided to approach the manager of the dealership with concerns. The manager was quick to remind De Leon that none of the extras have to be there when someone is selling a car in the second hand market. You take it as it is, of course with your consent. After-sale services are more of a privilege that dealerships can grant you — if they choose so. @leoneldeleon13 #fyp #nevertrustadealership #LIVEIncentiveProgram #LIVEStory #PaidPartnership ♬ sonido original – a-ha-oye According to Motor1 when you do buy something from a second hand dealer — just expect that everything in that car at the point of sale, will be everything that car will ever have. That’s not to say, that you have to leave the car there. You can request it to sweeten the deal and with a salesperson you could always also use their desire to make a sale to your advantage. Continue making ask after ask before you sign anything. In the comments section of the Tiktok, of course other users also gave their take on De Leon’s predicament. One user reminded to always have everything in writing, since “they do not honor anything that is not written in their contract,” and another user added that next time De Leon should ask for a “We Owe You” note that can be enforceable. Dealing with salespeople will always be difficult but the more you read up on it, the more lifelong tips you leave with.
