On December 22, I will launch a new party during a rally at Baharampur Textile More where 50,000 people will gather. I will be the chairman of the party; on the day the party will be launched I will reveal other details,” Kabir said while speaking to The Indian Express. He added the outfit would be “for the common man and will work for the benefit of the common man.”Kabir took a dig at TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for his claims to bring the number of MLAs in BJP to 50 in the upcoming state Assembly elections, as he stated that former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee “had shown a similar arrogance but was defeated in people’s mandate.”“Our party will provide an alternative to the communal, divisive agenda of the BJP and others, raise the issues faced by common people, and expose the hypocrisy and anti-poor approach of other parties,” he said.Kabir had earlier said that his new outfit will not close doors to the Congress, Left and even Indian Secular Front (ISF). “Please don’t take Humayun Kabir lightly,” he said.Humayun was a Congress MLA from Rejinagar (2011 2012) before resigning, was expelled from the Trinamool for six years in 2015 for alleged anti party activities. He contested the 2016 Assembly polls as an independent to retain the Rejinagar seat from his predecessor Rabiul Chowdhury, but lost.Story continues below this adIn 2018, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested from Murshidabad in the 2019 general election, but again lost to the TMC. After the expulsion period ended, he rejoined the Trinamool and won the Bharatpur seat.Over the past one year, Kabir has repeatedly criticised the party, prompting warnings from Chief Minister and TMC-supremo Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee that such behaviour would not be tolerated. Kabir had also taken on Berhampore Trinamool MP Yusuf Pathan.Kabir has been previously censured by the TMC a number of times and even slapped with show-cause notices for making public statements that caused embarrassment to the party.Meanwhile, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul welcomed the move, saying, “It is good that he had realised the bitter truth that Mamata Banerjee has taken advantage of him. I am sure the Muslims of Bengal will understand that the government has only taken advantage of the community and they are deprived of jobs, education. They have only been encouraged to join criminal activities, she has pushed the Muslim youth into complete darkness. The Hindus of TMC have already realised the appeasement politics and they are not happy with Mamata Banerjee, and the Muslims like him know that all she said is a farce so they are also moving away only those earning by illegal means from her are sticking with her.”— WITH PTIStay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:TMC
