‘I don’t know what to do’ – Ricky Evans says he’s ‘struggling’ with major Grand Slam of Darts problem

Wait 5 sec.

Ricky Evans had to overcome more than just Luke Woodhouse at the Grand Slam of Darts.Speaking to Darts Now following his tight 10-9 win over Woodhouse in the second round, Evans revealed he was also battling finger spasms in his right hand. When asked whether he was ‘chucking darts away’, Evans responded: “I was.“That’s probably what I need to work on. When you struggle, when you’ve got something wrong with you. Because I could go, ‘Oh, look at that.’“I don’t really know what to do, I don’t. Because that is the key dart, well the key finger for my throw.“So when it starts moving when I’m throwing, I don’t know, I’ll be honest.“If you can tell me the answer, I’ll pay you good money.”Evans added the finger spasms only tend to crop up when he is on stage and are not a common issue when practising. However, he does not have as many physical ailments as former world champion Michael Smith, who revealed last January a devastatingly long list of injuries.“The last time it happened was against Rob Owens at the Worlds last year,” Evans said.“And most of the people around me were like, ‘Oh, you need to get sorted.’ And I’ve been alright.“Don’t get me wrong, I’m struggling. But I’m not Michael Smith territory.Evans’ record at the Grand Slam of Darts reads four wins and six defeats from the three times he’s qualified for the tournamentPA Wire“I’ve got tendinitis, I’ve got arthritis. Maybe it’s that, but I think it’s got something to do with nerves.“I think it’s because of the game, it meant so much.”Evans’ victory over Woodhouse was his first time in the knockout stages of the Grand Slam of Darts, having been bundled out in the round robin stage in 2013 and 2020.But now he will, at the very least, be able to call himself a quarter-finalist.Evans’ charge to the final eight also helped him pocket £25,000 in prize money.Standing in the 35-year-old’s way of a semi-final berth is Gerwyn Price, who booked his spot in the quarter-finals with a 10-6 victory over Martin Schindler.Price is a three-time winner at the Grand Slam of DartsGettyBut Evans wants to avoid helping ‘The Iceman’ win the tournament for a fourth timeShutterstockIt will be the pair’s second time facing off at this year’s tournament having both been drawn in Group D.Evans already has the wood over Price having beaten him 5-4 in the round robin stage. However, Price boasts the historical edge having beaten Evans in their previous 11 encounters dating back to February 2019.Evans and Price will duke it out for a spot in the final four on Friday.
