Mann badalta rehta hai chai aur coffee ke beech me. Sometimes, I am a coffee person, sometimes, I am a chai person,” Sonakshi said. She added that her preferences keep changing with her mood and dietary needs. “When I am on a diet, then I am a black coffee person. When I am not on a diet, then I am a chai person. Doodh wali chai and cappuccino person. So, depends on mood and diet,” she told Mashable India, adding that, unlike her, her husband, Zaheer Iqbal, is particular about his choice of beverage. “Zaheer is a black coffee person. He only drinks black coffee.”So, we reached out to a dietitian to understand if it’s a good idea to have only black coffee.“Zaheer’s preference for only black coffee suggests discipline and awareness around calorie intake and flavour. Choosing black coffee means skipping added sugars, cream or flavour-syrups — actions that inflate calories and can distract from the core nutrition goal,” said consultant dietitian Garima Goyal. Black coffee, by itself, contains virtually no calories and typically does not raise blood sugar levels. For some, it may enhance satiety and suppress appetite, whereas for others, it may not work at all. So, it’s necessary to heed caution. Goyal added that if you find yourself experiencing acidity, insomnia, or jitteriness, it’s time to reduce intake. Also Read | Nutrition coach swears by the 1.5:1 rule to lose belly fat, says it ‘can help with blood sugar for those who struggle with it’Stressing that while black coffee can be part of a balanced diet, Goyal said that it’s not a substitute for hydration or nutrient-dense beverages. “Timing and individual sensitivity to caffeine should be considered,” she told indianexpress.com.In essence, the habit is a reminder of how small everyday decisions — like what kind of coffee you drink — can reflect broader diet and lifestyle choices. “It’s less about the coffee and more about consistent, mindful intake of what supports your goals,” said Goyal.Story continues below this adDISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to.
