(File)As the Punjab Local Government Department moves ahead with the redrawing of Mohali Municipal Corporation boundaries, the proposal which excludes Balongi, Bad Majra, and TDI City from the corporation limits has triggered a wave of objections from residents. A total of 42 objections have been received so far, with only one supporting the new demarcation and the rest opposing it.According to official sources, nearly 20 objections were filed by residents of TDI City, four from Balongi, and one from Bad Majra. Residents of MR and Ansal Housing Societies also urged that their areas be included within the corporation limits.The objections were accepted at the Mohali Municipal Corporation office until November 8, after the original deadline of November 6 was extended by two days. A compiled report of all 42 objections has now been submitted to Mohali Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh.The commissioner will now prepare his recommendations based on these objections and forward them to the Secretary, Department of Local Government, for a final decision. Sources indicate that the final notification may be issued by the end of this month.TDI residents withdraw High Court petitionIf the final notification remains unchanged, TDI City and Balongi will continue to remain outside the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction. In protest, TDI residents had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, but later withdrew their petition, which was subsequently dismissed as withdrawn.Mayor signals possible legal actionMohali Mayor Amarjeet Singh Jeeti Sidhu, while speaking to The Indian Express, stated that in 2021, the corporation had passed a resolution recommending inclusion of these areas within the municipal limits, but the new notification excluded them.
