Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said he had predicted the win, including the loss of deposit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the loss of face for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) that used all its strength to spread negativity about the Congress government.Mr. Reddy advised BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and BRS MLA T. Harish Rao to shed their jealousy and arrogance and function like an opposition party, raising public issues. They have to digest the fact that Congress was in the hearts of the people, he said, speaking to reporters after the Congress won the Jubilee Hills bypoll with a record voting percentage.“Despite acting like the BJP’s candidate in the byelection, Mr. Kishan Reddy could secure only 17,000 votes. These results should serve as a warning,” he remarked and extended an open invitation to the Union Minister to visit the Secretariat to discuss pending clearances and dues from the Centre. The Chief Minister said the verdict reflected the people’s continued faith in the Congress government and added that the result had increased the government’s responsibility towards public welfare.Congress secured 51% of the votes, while BRS polled 38% and BJP 8%, he said, calling it a ‘distinct verdict’ delivered after closely observing two years of governance. “From 39.5% in the Assembly elections to 41% in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and now 51% in Jubilee Hills, Congress has consistently grown. When Congress stands united, no one can defeat us,” he said. He said the opposition had tried to mislead people through ‘fake campaigns and fake surveys’ on social media and by obstructing key projects. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Hyderabad into a global city. He said detailed plans were being prepared for Metro Rail expansion, elevated corridors, Musi River rejuvenation, traffic decongestion and bringing Godavari water to the city.Mr. Revanth Reddy appealed to the opposition to cooperate with the government for at least the next two years, stating that political battles should be restricted to election time while development should remain a collective priority.Published - November 14, 2025 06:17 pm IST
