Written by Santosh SinghPatna | November 12, 2025 03:29 AM IST 2 min readShakeel AhmadIn a major jolt to Congress just three days before election results, former Union minister and ex-MP Shakeel Ahmad on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the party soon after polling for the second and last phase concluded.Ahmad, former Bihar Congress president and one of tallest Muslim leaders of Congress in Bihar, told The Indian Express: “Though I had taken the decision to resign from the party sometime back, I did not want to resign before polling for the last phase as it could have affected the party.” Asked about specific reasons for his step, Ahmad said: “I was not made part of the decision-making process at any stage.” Asked if his resignation had to do anything with Bihar AICC in-charge Krishna Allavaru or Bihar state chief Rajesh Kumar, Ahmad said: “Who else? They were in the saddle. I was not consulted on any matter.. But I am not going to join any party”.In his resignation letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Shakeel Ahmad wrote: “With a heavy heart, I have decided to resign from the membership of the Congress Party. My resignation does not mean that I will join another party. Indeed, I have no intention of doing so. Like my forefathers, I have complete faith in the ideology and principles of the Congress party, and I will forever remain a supporter of these ideologies and principles.
