(AP Photo)A group of indigenous protesters forced their way into United Nations climate talks in Brazilian Amazon city Belem, where COP30 Summit is taking place and clashed with security guards as they were pushed back. According to a UN climate agency spokesperson, two security staff have been injured in the incident, Reuters reported.The skirmish took place late in the day as people were leaving the venue. The protesters shouted angrily and demanded access to the United Nations compound where thousands of delegates from across the world have gathered to attend the UN climate summit of 2025.Demonstrators at the COP30 summit venue carried flags with slogans for land rights and they were also carrying signs, stating “our land is not for sale.” The COP30 presidency office referred all questions to the United Nations, and said that it was their property and the UN was in charge of security. (AP Photo)According to an Indigenous leader from the Tupinamba community near the lower reaches of the Tapajos River in Brazil, the community is upset with the ongoing development in the forest. “We can’t eat money. We want our lands free from agribusiness, oil exploration, illegal miners and illegal loggers,” Gilmar told Reuters.The entrance of the COP30 venue was blockaded by tables as security guards pushed back the protesters. A security guard was seen by a Reuters witness being taken away on a wheelchair after getting injured. Security personnel confiscated several batons from the protesting crowd.Hundreds of protesters who marched to the venue had dispersed shortly after the clash with security personnel. Guards later on allowed the COP30 delegates to exit the venue as they were earlier advised to remain inside until the area was cleared.
