When I first heard that Nigerian-British Hakeem Kae-Kazim would be leading a new Pan-African film shot right here in Uganda, I couldn’t help but smile. For years, we’ve talked about the need for Uganda to take its rightful place on the continental stage, and now it’s happening. This December, Kampala will have the film shoot of ‘SHADOW’, a landmark Pan-African production already stirring excitement across Africa.Produced by Dennis Abwakat (UK-based Ugandan, one of the minds behind the film ‘Nambi’), directed by Niyi Towolawi (British-Nigerian director), and starring Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Hotel Rwanda, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Black Sails), the film celebrates Africans telling their own stories with authenticity and pride. This is a collaborative project that unites African filmmakers to tell our stories from our own perspective”, said Abwakat.“It’s about redefining our narrative and elevating our continent through cinema.” Kae-Kazim echoed this vision, adding, “We are not only creating art; we are reshaping how the world sees us.”Faridah Nakazibwe reveals inspiration behind Mwasuze Mutya talk showDirector Towolawi praised Uganda’s visual potential, “Uganda is extremely picturesque and cinematic. Whether set in the present or the past, it offers a rich canvas for destination filmmaking.”Beyond storytelling, SHADOW is also a call for investment in Africa’s creative economy.“Governments should bear in mind that film can be a strategic element of employment, especially for young people,” said Kae-Kazim. Towolawi added, “Everyone has a part to play, from tax breaks to international collaborations.”As someone who’s been part of Uganda’s creative journey, I can confidently say Shadow is an opportunity for everyone involved and a proud step forward for Ugandan cinema. The post New Ugandan film “SHADOW” to feature Nigerian actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim appeared first on MBU.
