In one of the more unexpected pieces of theme park news this week, Universal Studios is replacing one of its most unique roller coasters with a new DJ experience. With parks scattered across the globe, Universal has created a long list of memorable roller coasters over the decades.Credit: UniversalFrom Universal Orlando Resort’s impressive array of adrenaline-packed options – such as Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Stardust Racers, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and, until recently, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (RIP) – to more unique attractions at its international parks, such as The Flying Dinosaur at Universal Studios Japan and Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon at UNiversal Studios Singapore, these thrill rides are how Universal has distinguished itself from its biggest competitor, Disney. And it’s not done building thrills just yet.Credit: Universal Studios JapanUniversal is set to debut its first outdoor high-speed roller coaster (no, Flight of the Hippogriff does not count) at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2026. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift includes 4,100 feet of track, twisting and turning over the Southern California theme park’s iconic escalators at speeds of up to 72 mph.Universal’s Most Unique Roller Coaster Receives DJ OverlayEven with the excitement surrounding this addition, it has yet to match the creativity of what might be Universal’s most imaginative coaster: Space Fantasy – The Ride.First opened at Universal Studios Japan in 2010 as a replacement for the E.T. Adventure, Space Fantasy – The Ride is an indoor coaster that takes riders on a journey through space, complete with immersive effects such as interactive projection screens, on-board audio, lasers, and fiber optics.Credit: Universal Studios JapanThis spinning coaster – which, in our opinion, is one of the most wonderfully weird attractions Universal has ever built – often welcomes lengthy virtual reality overlays. Right now, Space Fantasy – The Ride operates as Spy x Family XR Ride. From early 2026, however, the attraction will take on an entirely new form.Universal Studios Japan has confirmed that music producer and DJ Zedd will take over Space Fantasy – The Ride from January 30 through August 17, 2026.Credit: Universal Studios JapanSpace Fantasy – The Ride: CLUB ZEDD REMIX will see guests “step inside where powerful music and light take you to spectacular outer space!”Zedd – who’s best known for hits such as “Break Free” with Ariana Grande, “The Middle” with Maren Morris and Grey, and “I Want You to Know” with Selena Gomez – has created exclusive remixes for the attraction. Music will be synchronized with the ride sensations to “create a music experience from another dimension.”The DJ and producer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his excitement for the attraction.“Can’t believe I get to say this… I’M OPENING MY OWN RIDE AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN!!!” he wrote. “Over the past year, we’ve been reimagining the Space Fantasy roller coaster into CLUB ZEDD; a brand-new space-club experience. My goal was to make the music drive the ride itself, guiding you through every rise and drop; including an exclusive DJ mix I created just for the queue.”Can’t believe I get to say this… I’M OPENING MY OWN RIDE AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN!!!
