CineKind Awards: Indian films that show kindness towards animals to be honoured; ‘777 Charlie’, ‘Kooran’ on shortlist

(Representative photo)Soon, the Indian film industry will honour films that show kindness towards animals as part of a joint initiative by the Film Federation of India (FFI) and People for Animals (PFA). The first edition of the CineKind Awards will be held in Kolkata on December 20, wherein 10 films/personalities will be awarded. The awards will become an annual feature from next year, the organisers said.The official launch and announcement of CineKind were made jointly by Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, chairperson of People for Animals, and Firdausul Hassan, president of the Film Federation of India, at an event held in New Delhi on Wednesday.CineKind aims to recognise and reward not only members of the film fraternity but also individuals from across walks of life who are doing groundbreaking work and deserve recognition for inspiring kindness and compassion in society, said the organisers at the event.Story continues below this adThe awards include not only mainstream Hindi films but also regional cinema, they said.The only prerequisite is that it has to be an Indian production. So, films like 777 Charlie — a Kannada film featuring Charlie, a Labrador dog in the title role, showcasing the bonding between a lonely factory worker and a stray dog, and the 2025 Tamil film Kooran are on the shortlist.“Films have unmatched reach — they stir emotion, challenge belief, and spark change. With CineKind, we’re ensuring that kindness is celebrated on screen as powerfully as any action or drama,” said Hassan.At the CineKind Awards, 10 individuals will be honoured for embodying compassion and moral courage through their work, he said.Story continues below this ad“Films influence people.
