Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, who was Minister in charge of Public Works for most of 2001-06, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Friday (November 14, 2025) called upon the DMK government to challenge the Supreme Court’s latest direction on the Mekedatu dam project.Referring to the Court terming Tamil Nadu’s application on the issue “premature,” Mr. Panneerselvam said circumstances had now arisen for the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to examine the Detailed Project Report (DPR) which, the former Chief Minister called, an “injustice to Tamil Nadu.”Mr. Dhinakaran contended that the Karnataka government might expedite its work on the Mekedatu project, and the Cauvery river water might become a “mirage” for farmers of the State.The two leaders urged the DMK regime either to go on appeal or file a curative petition and have the rights of the State re-established.Published - November 14, 2025 05:40 pm IST
