Pune road accident: Victims in car were returning from Narayanpur temple

The five victims were from three different families. A couple and their daughter from Dhairi had embarked on the trip with a driver, who was a family friend. A three-year-old girl present in the car was another family friend’s daughter, who lived in Chikhali, police said. They were returning from the temple in Narayanpur when, a few kilometres away from their house, the fatal accident occured on Navale bridge.The bodies of the deceased were brought to the city’s Sassoon General Hospital for postmortem and identification. An atmosphere of grief and disbelief hung heavy in the air late Thursday night at the hospital. Family members of the deceased arrived one after another, their faces etched with shock and sorrow. Many broke down upon as the death of their loved ones’ was confirmed. Outside the mortuary, cries and wails echoed as relatives were called to identify the bodies — a task most could not bring themselves to complete.Hospital staff and police officers were seen consoling distraught family members, who clung to one another for support. Police personnel maintained a steady presence across the hospital premises.Story continues below this adEight persons were burned to death and several others injured after a speeding truck crashed into multiple vehicles in the Navale bridge area on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass of Pune-Bangalore Highway on Thursday evening.After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Pune City police and the Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot.
