Emergency SirenPolice are investigating a crash that killed a young girl on Tuesday afternoon in Boise, Idaho, involving an illegal.According to the City of Boise, police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at an intersection.  The victim, a nine-year-old girl,  was rushed to a local hospital,mb where she succumbed to her injuries.“A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling west on Ada St. and stopped at a stop sign at Harrison Blvd. The pedestrian, also traveling west on Ada, had stopped on the sidewalk on the northeast corner of the intersection.”“Traffic was backed up on Harrison, and the collision occurred when both the driver and the pedestrian entered the intersection with the driver attempting to turn right to head north on Harrison.”During a standard records check of NCIC (National Crime and Information Center) it was determined that the driver involved in the crash, Elvin Ramos-Caballero, was on scene and cooperated with the investigation had an outstanding federal warrant involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Because of the warrant, officers contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement who responded and took custody of Ramos-Caballero.Boise School District Superintendent Lisa Roberts sent the following message about student safety, according to CBS 2:Dear Boise School District Community,As many of you are aware, our community experienced a tragic incident last night in which a Washington Elementary School student lost their life after being struck by a vehicle. Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and the entire Washington community during this incredibly difficult time.In moments like this, we are reminded of the vulnerability of the young people we serve and of the shared responsibility we all hold in keeping students safe—whether they are walking, biking, riding the bus, or traveling in any way on our city’s streets.For maps and safety guidance, we encourage families to visit our Safe Routes to School webpage.Our Crisis Team is supporting the Washington Elementary community, and counselors will continue to be available for students, staff, or families who may be struggling.
