Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Saturday (November 15, 2025) issued a public alert after cyber fraudsters created fake Facebook accounts using his name and sent messages to his contacts claiming he was in distress and needed money. Taking to his account on X, the official informed that one of his friends was deceived and transferred ₹20,000 to an account operated by the scammers.Mr. Sajjanar said his official Facebook page is the only legitimate profile associated with him and urged citizens to ignore all other accounts. He added that the cybercrime wing of the Hyderabad police, with support from Meta, has begun action to trace and remove the fake profiles.The Commissioner urged people never to respond to requests for money made through social media or messaging apps, especially when they appear to come from public officials.
