Day one of the 2025 York Ebor Festival takes place on Wednesday and there are three Group races for punters to enjoy. The card features a rematch between the Eclipse one-two Delacroix and Ombudsman, who Japanese star Danon Decile joins in the feature Juddmonte International Stakes (15:35).Our expert, Clive Gildon, has a trio of selections on the card, including one in the big race, one in the fillies’ handicap and another in the closing sprint.Wednesday’s York tips15:35 York – See The Fire @ 15/216:45 York – Luna A Inbhir Nis @ 15/217:20 York – First Legion @ 11/115:35 York – See The Fire @ 15/2The Juddmonte International Stakes (15:35) was officially crowned the best race in the world last season and this year’s running is just as hot. Delacroix and Ombudsman renew rivalry after finishing first and second in the Eclipse at Sandown, but both could be vulnerable. The one who takes my eye is See The Fire, who is unbeaten in two starts at York and ran away with the Group 2 Middleton Stakes over course and distance in May by 12 lengths. She recorded a remarkably quick time that day and a reproduction of that run might do it.She has since twice been beaten in Group 1s, including when behind Ombudsman in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, that track is totally different from York and the same can be said for Goodwood, where she finished third in the Nassau last time.It was also heavy ground that day at Goodwood, so her third behind Whirl there can be forgiven, and there is every chance that she can return to form back on the Knavesmire. Her dam Arabian Queen was a far better horse at York than she was anywhere else and won this race ten years ago when an unfancied 50-1 outsider. See The Fire looks like a similar type of horse and she might be capable of elevating her form again at this track.16:45 York – Luna A Inbhir Nis @ 15/2The 5f fillies’ handicap (16:45) is an ultra-competitive race, but the value might lie at the head of the market with Luna A Inbhir Nis, who has won six of her last eight starts and is flying. The three-year-old simply hasn’t stopped improving and looked better than ever when landing a 51/2f handicap at this course last time, recording another career-best effort.Luna A Inbhir Nis has gone up another 5lb in the weights, but it’s hard to know where her ceiling lies and there could be another jolt of improvement to come because she keeps defying the handicapper. We also know that she likes this course and fast ground.A low draw is often fine when the ground is quick at York on the straight track and stall six might prove the right place to be.17:20 York – First Legion @ 11/1Class can often prove key in nurseries at this time of year and the topweight in the closing 6f nursery (17:20) has plenty of that. First Legion is the horse in question and he comes into the race having competed in Group and Listed races on his last three starts, so this is easier.First Legion recorded his best effort when second in a Listed event at Sandown in May and finished only six lengths behind Charles Darwin in the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot next time out.He ran to a similar level in a 5f Listed contest at Deauville last time, but shapes like he might be suited by returning to this 6f trip. He was successful over the distance at this course on his debut at the Dante meeting here and should be well suited by the stiffer test of stamina.First Legion handles any ground and Shane Foley, who rode for his first three starts, is a positive back in the saddle. There is a good chance the selection can take a step forward.Wednesday’s York tips15:35 York – See The Fire @ 15/216:45 York – Luna A Inbhir Nis @ 15/217:20 York – First Legion @ 11/1talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Bet £10 Get £30 in free betsVisit talkSPORT BET for all the latest horse racing betting odds*all odds correct at time of writing and subject to change18+ New customers only.
