Police said that in a raid carried out on Thursday in North East Delhi's New Seelampur, two persons – Ashu (22) and Imran (22) – were arrested and 18 rolls of plastic-based Chinese manjha seized.A 30-year-old man sustained critical injuries after his neck was allegedly slit by a manjha or kite string while he was on a flyover near Tughlakabad Metro station on Saturday evening.The incident was reported around 4.40 pm on the carriageway connecting Sarita Vihar to Faridabad.The victim, Rajneesh from Akhibelpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where his condition remains serious, police said.“He was found bleeding heavily from the neck… Preliminary investigation suggests that he was injured from red manjha or a kite string,” said DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari.This comes amid the Delhi Police Crime Branch mounting a crackdown against the sale of the banned Chinese manjha – a synthetic, glass-coated kite string notorious for causing grievous injuries and deaths in the city during the festive season.In the run-up to Independence Day, police said they had arrested three men for allegedly selling Chinese Manjha and recovered 68 rolls from their possession.Police said that in a raid carried out on Thursday in North East Delhi’s New Seelampur, two persons – Ashu (22) and Imran (22) – were arrested and 18 rolls of plastic-based Chinese manjha seized.Story continues below this adThe same day, the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch raided a shop at Sangam Vihar in Wazirabad, where 50 rolls of the string were recovered from Mohammad Saaqib (35).
