FIR against UP nursing home owner, aide as labourer alleges kidney ‘removed during surgery’

The medical department’s two-member committee is expected to submit its findings, which will guide further action, officials said.THE POLICE have registered an FIR against the owner of a private nursing home and an employee after a 35-year-old man alleged that they “deceitfully removed one of his kidneys” under the guise of kidney stone surgery.  A two-member panel has been set up to probe the matter, officials said on Saturday.According to the police, an FIR was registered against the nursing-home owner, identified only as Imamuddin, and an employee, Tar Mohammad, who are both on the run. The complaint was filed after the victim, Allahauddin, claimed that his health worsened following an operation and an ultrasound later showed that “one kidney was missing.”Superintendent of Police, Kushinagar, Santosh Kumar Mishra said the matter has been referred to the medical department for a thorough investigation. “We have informed the medical department about the matter, and they have initiated a separate inquiry,” he said. “All allegations, including the serious charge that one of the complainant’s kidneys was allegedly damaged and removed, will be examined in detail.”Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kushinagar, Brij Nandan, said that a two-member committee has been appointed to inquire into the case. He said the next course of action would depend on the committee’s report. He also confirmed that the nursing home is registered with the CMO office.According to police, the victim had narrated his ordeal during a recent Jan Sunvai programme. Allahauddin told officers that he first sought treatment in Maharajganj in April, where doctors diagnosed a kidney stone and advised surgery. He said he did not undergo the operation there because the estimated cost was too high.A few days later, he said, he met Tar Mohammad, who promised a much cheaper procedure. Tar took him to a private nursing home in Kotwa Bazaar and introduced him to its owner, Imamuddin. The victim was admitted and an operation was carried out at the facility, he alleged.Allahauddin said his condition deteriorated soon after the surgery. When he was shifted to another hospital, an ultrasound allegedly revealed that one kidney was missing.Story continues below this adPolice said the duo shut down the nursing home and fled after the allegations surfaced. No arrest has been made yet.The SP said he had directed a Circle Officer-rank officer to conduct a preliminary inquiry. Following that inquiry, the FIR was registered.
