BBMP launches massive cleanliness drive across six zones in Bengaluru

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday launched a large-scale cleanliness and encroachment clearance drive across six zones of the city.Under the directions of BBMP Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, the campaign, carried out in coordination with the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), aims to improve hygiene and restore pedestrian space across major stretches.Zonal and Joint Commissioners, along with Chief Engineers, supervised the operations that deployed heavy vehicles, tractors, and cleaning personnel.In the East Zone, damaged slabs were replaced, garbage cleared, and obstructing tree branches removed along a 4.4 km stretch from Anepalya Junction to Residency Road. Footpath encroachments were also cleared in Kammanahalli Main Road and Subbaiyanapalya.In the West Zone, the BBMP undertook cleaning operations in Industrial Estate, Nandini Layout, and Jagajeevanram Nagar of Rajajinagar and Malleswaram divisions and removed obstructions on several roads.The South Zone saw pushcarts and name boards removed from footpaths in Deepanjali Nagar and near Kempambudhi Lake, while in the Yelahanka Zone, cleanup drives were carried out along Thanisandra Main Road, Ananthapura Main Road, and Jakkur Layout, alongside checks on plastic use and COPTA violations.At Kengeri Bus Stand in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, mass cleaning was carried out, and saplings were planted near Kengeri Lake.
