Cam Newton is warning Shedeur Sanders fans not to take a victory lap just yet.The Cleveland Browns rookie threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers in an impressive preseason debut.Newton thinks the Browns are in desperate need of hopeGettyHis performance saw critics run for cover as social media was flooded with support for the fifth-round rookie. But Newton called for a reality check.“We got to also put things into perspective here, ladies and gentlemen,” he said on his 4th&1 podcast. “This is the first preseason game.“Okay, this is the deal about preseason game. No. 1 — it’s just a glorified practice. No. 2 — the coverages and the schemes are extremely basic.”Newton dealt with his fair share of haters during his NFL career and the 2015 MVP wasn’t about to become one himself. While urging caution, he was full of praise for how Sanders did what was asked of him.He also laid out his 3-c’s philosophy — Create Competitive Commotion.“You in a quarterback battle, big dog. We need everybody to start saying, “Ooh, the boy looked good. He showed promise,'” the three-time Pro Bowler said. “Did he have some mistakes? Absolutely. Could he have done some things better? Absolutely. But when given an opportunity and you make the most of that opportunity, you’ve created what we call triple C: Create Competitive Commotion.”Newton thinks that if Sanders continues to show the same level of confidence and work ethic, the Browns will be forced to hand him the keys to the franchise.Shedeur has looked good when given the chance to impressGettyDenzel Washington launched a strong defence of the QBGetty Images - GettyJoe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel are also vying for the job but the former Panthers star thinks Shedeur has the highest upside. He added: “You give them people hope, and they start to say, ‘Hold on, bro. Flacco man, your own kids don’t even think that you good. Hey man, Dylan, respectfully, bro. Kenny Pickett, brother, watch out. Go on to scooch. Deshaun, you’re draining us financially, and you’re hurt.’“So now in comes a person that can give these folks hope. It’s going to be a monster created so much that the coaches, the organization, and everybody else are going to have to play Shedeur Sanders.”Shedeur Sanders injury updateShedeur would have been hoping to build on his display against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday but an oblique injury looks to have ruled him out.“If it’s a right guard, you can play through that,” head coach Stefanski said. “When it’s a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. “So unfortunately we’re going to put him down for a little bit here. We will treat it day to day and see how he responds. But we want to be smart. He’s a thrower so you can’t push that thing.”NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?Sanders has won himself a celebrity admirer in Hollywood phenom Denzel Washington. The Remember the Titans actor, who has a net worth of $300 million, says Shedeur following Hall of Fame dad Deion into the NFL and Bronny James linking up with LeBron in LA has made them a target for people who don’t know what they’re talking about.“Listen, Shedeur can play, you know, for real,” Washington told Sports Illustrated.“Everybody’s got an opinion. In fact, we live in a world of opinionaries. That’s what I call them, opinionaires. All the shows, a bunch of guys, a couple of them that have played, but most of them who haven’t, who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it. “Those who can do, those who can’t talk about those who can’t.
