The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) began a two-day open hearing and camp sitting at the Dr. MCR Human Resource Development Institute in Hyderabad on Monday, July 28, taking up a range of complaints and cases related to human rights violations in Telangana.The sittings were a part of the Commission’s effort to provide timely and effective redressal of grievances while reinforcing accountability among public authorities. Two Division Benches presided over the hearings, which addressed a spectrum of issues including caste-based discrimination, social boycott, custodial violence, police excesses, and infringements on the rights to life, dignity, liberty, and livelihood, said a release.The hearings were conducted in a time-bound and transparent manner, with the Commission issuing firm directions to the concerned authorities for prompt action. In cases where rights violations were substantiated, the NHRC recommended and awarded monetary compensation to the victims.Division Bench–I was chaired by NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, alongside member Priyank Kanoongo. Division Bench–II was led by Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, with member Vijaya Bharathi Sayani. In addition, a Full Bench was constituted to consider select cases of significant public concern, including those initiated suo motu by the Commission.On Tuesday (July 29), the second day of the visit, NHRC members are scheduled to meet senior officials of the Telangana government to review action taken on previous recommendations.
