Hull City now have just one senior striker in their squad after the club announced they have loaned out Mason Burstow.Burstow has dropped down to League One to join Bolton Wanderers and the transfer has left fans majorly confused.Burstow has left to join Bolton Wanderers in League OneGettyBut it has left new manager Sergej Jakirovic with only one senior strikerPhil Oldham/ShutterstockIt means manager Sergej Jakirovic, who has been at the club for less than two months, already finds himself in a tough spot.Jakirovic is now desperate for some more firepower after Burstow’s move, with Kyle Joseph the only remaining striker in the squad.Hull confirmed on Monday afternoon that the former Chelsea youngster had left the club to join Bolton. The 21-year-old’s departure came just two days after he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 friendly victory over Stockport. And Tigers supporters couldn’t believe what they were seeing, only two weeks from the start of the new Championship season. Replying to the confirmation of Burstow’s loan switch, one confused fan wrote: “Are you kidding me?”Another fan said: “Wait, what?”“Doesn’t make any sense,” a third Hull supporter posted. And a fourth bemused supporter said: “This is a poor decision again letting a striker leave before we replace him.” Burstow has been a Hull player since last summer, but he struggled to hit the ground running, scoring two goals in 32 appearances. Joseph is now the only striker left in the Tigers’ squad with the season loomingGettyHowever, with attacking options thin on the ground at Hull, there are major questions over whether he should have been loaned out. Burstow leaving has left Joseph as the only senior option for Jakirovic to play up front as things stand. And that will be a major concern, as the 23-year-old, who joined for a reported £2.5m in January, has not scored once for the club. Joseph has played 16 times for the Tigers and failed to find the net.Academy prospect Tyrell Sellars-Fleming could potentially step up to help out, but he spent last season in the National League. It’s certainly a worrying moment for Hull, who were the lowest scoring team in the entire Championship last campaign.Championship's lowest scorers 2024/25Hull City (44 goals) Luton Town (45 goals)Stoke City (45 goals) Millwall (47 goals) Derby County (48 goals) Preston North End (48 goals) Cardiff City (48 goals) Oxford United (49 goals)Swansea City (51 goals) Plymouth Argyle (51 goals) The Tigers only scored 44 times in 46 games as they narrowly avoided relegation to League One, finishing 21st.They found the net fewer times than all three teams that did eventually drop down to the third tier. That was with Joseph, Burstow and Brazilian veteran Joao Pedro as their striker options, but that’s now dwindled down. Pedro had his contract cancelled at the end of the season despite only signing an extension a month beforehand. The Championship season gets started on August 8, with Hull in action on August 9 away at Coventry City. And unless they are able to bring in another striker, Frank Lampard‘s defence could be in for a simpler job than expected.View Tweet: https://twitter.com/hashtag/bwfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw‘Excited to get started’ Hull might now be in a tough position after Burstow departed, but the player is delighted to be spending a season at Bolton.Speaking after his move was announced, he said: “I’m looking forward to wearing this shirt and representing the club, with the stature of Bolton as well. “It’s always a club you look at and think they definitely are better than League One, so hopefully I can help get over the line.“I’m excited to get started. It was one of the plans that they needed a striker and I’m glad they decided to go with me. “I had a few conversations with the gaffer and our plans and ideas for the season align, so it should be good. “It’ll be good to meet the lads and hopefully fit in straight away, with the other new boys as well, and then we can get off to a flyer.”
